What bundles together school initiatives, school spirit and school news, and feels like a family reunion? The monthly assemblies at each of Katonah-Lewisboro’s elementary schools!
While the gatherings are different each time, they always give student leaders an opportunity to shine, and shine a spotlight on club work, community reads and monthly themes.
The April Sharing Assembly at Increase Miller, led by Principal Kerry Ford and Assistant Principal Dr. Michael Weschler, featured the school’s Start with Hello initiative.
Assistant Principal Weschler followed up on conversations that fifth grade leaders had with each class on how simply saying hello could start friendships and build belonging. “What’s your hello style?” Dr. Weschler asked the students. “It can be with words, actions or a combination of both.”
‘I smile and give a high five,” said one student. “I wave and go for a fist bump,” said another.
Principal Ford distributed the “A Planet Like Ours,” by Frank Murphy, the Earth Month Community Read, to a member of each class. Students had an opportunity to share work that they’d done with their buddy classes exploring the theme of sustainability.
From celebrating kind, responsible and safe behavior with Eagle Eye Awards to singing the school song “Reach for the Stars” complete with claps and hand motions, the Sharing Assembly brought students together and gave them a sense of pride in what they were accomplishing, together.
